Arduaine Cottages: The Location
The hamlet of Arduaine is situated midway between Lochgilphead and Oban on the A816, five miles south of the village of Kilmelford. A map of the area can be viewed on our Contact Us page. There are excellent marina facilities at nearby Kilmelford, Craobh Haven and Ardfern - all within 5-10 minutes drive, plus swimming pools and golf courses at both Lochgilphead and Oban. The famous links course at Machrihanish is a must for keen golfers, albeit somewhat further afield.
There are excellent hotels and restaurants in the area, and only five minutes walk away is the AA 3 star Loch Melfort Hotel, with its established reputation for excellent food in its restaurant (bar meals also served in The Skerry bar). Adjacent to the hotel is the National Trust for Scotland's Arduaine Gardens, world famous for its collection of rhododendrons and azaleas.
Also available locally are wildlife cruises with the chance to explore uninhabited islands and observe some of the spectacular whirlpools caused by the geology of the local seabed.
Kilmelford and Ardfern villages both have a general store and post office, providing locally farmed and fished, fresh and cured produce. Both are worth a visit for those breakfast staples, but also for a few of the extra luxuries and nibbles that come with being on holiday!
